Oscar. Oscar. Oscar. Blah. Blah. Blah. I've seldom been so completely indifferent to the list of nominees in all the years I've been following the silly things. The academy is more concerned with its image and how they are perceived as being politically correct than they are actually rewarding good work.

Tahun kemarin misalnya. Saya akuin, Twenty Feet from Stardom adalah film dokumenter yang menarik. Tapi menafikan film dokumenter sekelas The Act of Killing yang tak hanya dr kualitas yang jauh lebih superior, tapi juga mengusung isu amat sangat penting (genosida vs back singer) benar-benar sesuatu yang stupid banget. I mean, WTF?!

Tahun sebelumnya ada Argo yang.. uhh... bukan berarti filmnya jelek banget sih, tapi di dekade-dekade mendatang, siapa sih yang akan melihat artikel yg bikin list film-film terbaik yang menyertakan Argo di dalamnya? Forgettable banget. Belum parade kemenangannya yang sangat berbau politis sekali.

Untuk tahun ini, pihak Academy kembali buta dg tidak menyertakan Jonny Greenwood untuk scoring briliannya di Inherent Vice (saya berpendapat scoringnya adalah salah satu yg terbaik in recent years). Dan bukan sesuatu yang mengejutkan sama sekali jika The Look of Silence bahkan tidak masuk nominasi sekali. Absennya The Lego Movie juga bisa masuk kategori perampasan hak asasi manusia, dan harus kena somasi. Dan yang terburuk dari yang terburuk, scoring Interstellar masuk nominasi. Serius, film ini memiliki scoring dan sound editing terburuk tahun ini (atau malah dekade ini), banyak dialog yang lenyap gak kedengeran karena bam-bim-bum musik gak jelas, termasuk saat pembacaan puisi "Do not go gentle into that good night"-nya Dylan Thomas, sehingga saya harus monolog sendiri di bioskop melanjutkan kata-kata Michael Caine yang lenyap gak jelas.

But I always watch Oscar's ceremony. I watched the Oscars for the botox, really--yes, I'm evil like that. Haha.

Oscar wise, it was all just so utterly predictable, there wasn't a single surprise, they all went exactly where everyone had predicted they would all go. The film earned whatever hype it received. But excuse my commentary, just this one last time: fuck the academy.

@khieveihk mungkin yang kamu maksud itu Golden Raspberry Awards, penghargaan parodi sbg lawan dari Academy Awards untuk kategori-kategori film yang dianggap terburuk tahun tsb. Dan jujur saja, acara ini lebih menghibur ketimbang Oscar, haha.
