BALI, Indonesia (AP) -- A former Australian diplomat has hanged himself in a Bali jail cell a day after he was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting two boys on the Indonesian resort island, prison guards said Wednesday.

The body of William Stuart Brown, 52, was discovered in his cell in the eastern town of Karangasem on Wednesday morning, said guard Ida Bagus Oka.

Brown had made a noose from material taken from his mattress, Oka said.

He hanged himself from metal bars blocking access to a ventilation hole in the roof of the cell, he said.

On Tuesday, Brown was convicted of assaulting two boys, aged 12 and 16, in Bali last year. The case had attracted widespread media attention in Australia.

It was not immediately clear whether an investigation would be launched into the incident. The time of his death was not known.

Australian embassy officials were not available for comment.

Brown was arrested in January. Judges said he admitted to having sexual contact with the boys, but maintained they were willing participants.

Brown moved to Indonesia from Canberra, Australia eight years ago.

Bener koq... Kemarin dia dituntut hakim penjara 13 tahun.. dia ngga terima pake marah2 segala dan mgneucapkan kata2 yang tidak pantas di pengadilan...
Tadi pagi di koran gue baca dia gantung diri.... Tapi permasalahannya nnga berhenti gitu aja khan... anak2 yg disodmi akan trauma dan kalau tidak di tangani secara baik dan benar bisa2 dia juga jadi pedhopile nantinya sebagai balas dendam...

secara hukum 'age of consent' dimana anak sudah bisa didakwa atas perilakunya sendiri (bukan lagi ortu yang kena charge) adalah 14. ketika 17, mereka bisa dimasukkan ke penjara dewasa, bukan lagi penjara anak-anak, cmiiw
